The Sonoma Coast: One of the World’s Greatest

Recent news of two huge acquisitions of land near the Sonoma County coast in northern California is very exciting. It’s not often, these days, for land to be set aside for public use. Developers are ready, willing, and able to scoop up prime land for upscale housing, especially in desirable Sonoma County.

But this time a group called LandPaths saved the day, and joined with state and local agencies to buy the 3,373-acre Willow Creek watershed. A bit farther north, a coalition of state, federal, and non-profit agencies helped purchase a 1000-acre chunk of the spectacular Stornetta Ranch near Point Arena (adding an important link in the 1200-mile, 60% completed, Coastal Trail). When people love the land, they will preserve it.

All of which leads me to direct you to the Sonoma coast, one of the most beautiful accessible coastlines anywhere. Just pick up Route One at Bodega Bay and head north to a heavenly stretch of coast where you can hike or bike or tramp about, or just sit and gaze upon the wild Pacific Ocean. Your body, mind, and spirit will thank you for it.
